![1050 year old coin!
For my PC I collect coins from India and this is by far the most premium coin that I will add today. Usually ancient coins are extremely worn but this one looks like it was just minted yesterday. A little background on it ( thanks AI ):
Rani Didda (c. 924–1003 CE) was a powerful and formidable queen who ruled Kashmir with an iron fist, first as regent for her son and grandsons, and then as a sovereign monarch from 980 to 1003 CE, known for her political cunning, ruthlessness, and establishing the Lohara dynasty's power. Born with a physical disability (a lame foot) but defying expectations, she consolidated power by eliminating rivals, building temples, and ensuring stability, earning her nicknames like "The Catherine of Kashmir" and being remembered for her strong will and statecraft. Key Aspects of Her Reign:
• Early Life & Marriage: Daughter of Simharaja, King of Lohara, she married Kashmir's King Kshemagupta, uniting their kingdoms.
• Regency & Power Grab: After her husband's death, she became regent for her son, Abhimanyu II, and later her grandson, Bhimagupta, effectively holding all power and ruling with an iron hand.
• Sovereign Rule: In 980 CE, she took the throne as queen, ruling independently until her death, establishing the Lohara dynasty.
• Political Acumen: She skillfully navigated rebellions, managed ministers, and strategically used ruthlessness to maintain control, outmaneuvering enemies.
• Legacy: She built towns (like Kangan), constructed numerous temples, and her name "Didda" gave rise to the Kashmiri word "ded" (grandmother).
